How do I upload files to my web space?

The easiest way is to download a free FTP program. There are many FTP clients that you can download for free from the internet, and we have made guides for the most popular FTP clients here. If your domain is yourdomain.com, you would use www.yourdomain.com as the hostname, yourdomain.com as the username, and your password.

Where do I store files?

When you upload files to your website, please upload them into the directory /public/www/. You will see the "public" directory when you first
FTP into your web space.

Why is my webpage not displaying?

Your homepage must be named either index.htm or index.html (lower case), as this is the file our servers will look for when someone visits your site. If your web page is correctly named, and you still cannot see your files, you should check that you have uploaded your files with the correct file permissions set. Please make sure that everyone has "read" access to your files. If you are unsure how to do this, please refer to the help file of your FTP client to find out how to change the permissions of a file.

Why can I not login to my web space?

Please be sure that you are using www.yourdomain.com as the hostname, along with yourdomain.com as the username (no www), and the correct password. Please also note that everything should be written in lower case, unless your password contains capital letters. If you still cannot log in, please call us on 0845 117 0555, or e-mail us at support@clara.net for further assistance. It is not essential, but if your FTP client produces FTP logs, these may be useful in resolving the problem.
