If you are using an ADSL Modem, install the software as detailed in the manufacturer's documentation. Once the ADSL modem has been installed sucessfully, the device is included as an option on the Show Tab in the network window.
To set up the Mac to work with the newly installed modem:
1) Click on the Apple menu and select "System Preferences", then click on the Network icon.
2) Click on Location and select "New Location". Enter the name you wish to use to label this connection, for example Claranet_Broadband. This field does not accept any spaces. Click on Ok to proceed.

3) Select the newly installed modem at the "Show" option and you should see a screen similar to the one shown below. Please enter the following information on this screen:
Service provider: Enter in the name you wish to label this connection as,
any name would do.
Account name: Enter the full Claranet adsl user name.
Your username should look like either of the following:
joebloggs@adsl-1.uk.clara.net
joebloggs@adsl-2.uk.clara.net
If your Claranet e-mail address is johnsmith@clara.co.uk this would make your ADSL logon username johnsmith@adsl-1.uk.clara.net or johnsmith@adsl-2.uk.clara.net.
The syntax after the @ symbol is known as the ADSL Gateway.
The gateway affiliated with your account would have been
sent to you once the service was activated.
Password: Enter your Claranet password.
Telephone and alternate number: Enter 0.

4) Click on the TCP/IP tab and enter in the Claranet DNS server addresses. Once entered, click on Apply Now to save the changes.
Primary DNS: 195.8.69.7
Secondary DNS: 195.8.69.12

You should now be able to connect using your ADSL modem.
Using a router is great way to share your ADSL connection amongst multiple computers. The following is a quick and easy guide to setting up an ADSL connection in MAC OS X 10.3 if you are using an ADSL router.
Please note, before you attempt the following steps you are required to configure your ADSL Router. Without the correct router configuration settings, following these steps will not enable you to connect. For more information regarding setting up and configuring your router, please refer to the manufacturer's documentation supplied with the device.
These are the most common basic settings for routers configured to connect to our ADSL service.
Encapsulation : PPPoA
Multiplexing method : VC-BASED / G.DMT
VCI : 38
VPI : 0
Enter the username and password as shown in step 3.
1) Click on the Apple menu and select "System Preferences", then click on the Network icon.
2) Click on Location and select "New Location". Enter in the location name you wish to label this connection, for example Claranet_Broadband. This field does not accept spaces. Click on Ok to proceed.

3) Select "Built in Ethernet" at the "show" option and you should see a screen similar to the one shown below. Enter the following information on this screen:
Ensure that "Configure IPv4" is set to "Using DHCP".
Enter the Claranet DNS server addresses in the DNS Servers box.
Primary DNS: 195.8.69.7
Secondary DNS: 195.8.69.12
4) Click on Apply Now and the Mac will detect the router.

If all is ok you should get a screen like the one below indicating the MAC has detected the router and is connected to it.
