Setting Up Multiple Email Addresses

The standard email format looks like [username]@clara.co.uk, where username is the user's login name. With every Claranet dial up and ADSL account, you can choose to have as many addresses as you wish. This is done by creating
aliases. There are no extra costs and this service is free to customers.

The format for using aliases is slightly different from that of a single email address. Instead of [username]@clara.co.uk the addresses will look like:[name1]@[username].clara.co.uk

[name2]@[username].clara.co.uk
[name3]@[username].clara.co.uk
[name4]@[username].clara.co.uk

There is no need to contact Claranet to setup each individual alias, simply choose the names you wish to use and change the Reply to: field in your mail settings as appropriate.

There are many instances where you would wish to have more than one email address. Individual members of a family may wish to have their own address, perhaps using the family surname as the username (if available). An example of this would be:

john@smith.clara.co.uk
mary@smith.clara.co.uk
anthony@smith.clara.co.uk
pauline@smith.clara.co.uk

When the Smith family comes to access its email, each family member's email can be distinguished via the address to which the mail has been sent.

If you have a Clarahost account you can create separate email addresses and set them up individualy on your email client.

If the Smith family had a Clarahost account with the domain thesmiths.co.uk, the email addresses they could setup would be something like this:

john@thesmiths.co.uk mary@thesmiths.co.uk

To setup an extra mailbox for a Clarahost account login to the domain management suite and add the mailbox there, then setup that mailbox on your email client.

Unlimited aliases can also be set up on Clarahost, but be sure that any aliases are not also setup as pop email accounts. For further information on setting up Claranet email accounts, please see our guide on email clients.
